A. THIS TRANSMISSION

1. The purpose of this transmission is the same as that of any other automatic transmission--to provide automatically suitable gear ratios between the engine and rear wheels to meet all driving conditions.
2. The new Controlled Coupling HydraMatic transmission differs greatly from the old Hydra-Matic in a number of respects.

 
a. The standard Hydra-Matic (dual-range) transmission contained a number of frictional
units--the multiple disc front and rear clutches, the front band, and the rear band.
